RTT: John Lithgow, Muffins, and Cops, Oh My!

It's another Random Tuesday! Brought to you by Keely from The Un Mom.

Did anyone happen to catch How I Met Your Mother last night? (If not, then be prepared for a minor spoiler). I was excited to learn that Barney would finally be meeting his dad! And after all of the drama and hype surrounding his father, how utterly disappointing to see that John Lithgow was cast as his father. I have never been a fan of his, especially when he starred on 3rd Rock from the Sun, but I did not mind him as Lord Farquaad in Shrek But casting aside, this storyline provided Barney with several touching scenes as he came to terms with reconnecting with his father. I just about bawled when he confronts his dad with the fact that yes, he is now a "Suburban Dad", but why couldn't he be that for Barney? I think it was also great that the viewers were given a chance to see through some of the cracks in Barney's shell and get a glimpse of the pain he feels. But I still don't like John Lithgow, even though he admittedly did a fantastic job with the role. (Click here for a much better recap than I was able to produce).

Lesson learned this week, if a recipes states to bake muffins at 400 for 18-22 minutes, DO NOT listen! The last two recipes I've used have both directed this, and both times, the darn things burned on the bottom. From now on, I'm sticking to the usual 375 for 20-25 minutes. I really don't know what else could have been the problem. I have not moved my bottom rack at all, so they should not have been too low. Who knows.

Last week I had the opportunity to get together with some friends from high school while Daddio went out of town with the boys for a few days. It's amazing how after all these years, every time we get together, we all just sort of fall back into place from where we left off in high school. The conversation flows with ease, there is never a shortage of topics, and the laughter never ends. It's great to have those moments. Of course we also tend to act like we're still in high school when we get together, but who cares as long as we're having fun, right?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had to "upgrade" my cell phone. I've been eligible for an upgrade for over a year now, but I was holding off on actually doing it for several ones. The main reason being that my phone was purple, and Verizon no longer offered a purple phone that I could afford, so I was waiting until one became available. Unfortunately, I couldn't wait any longer because my phone decided to kick the bucket on me. Well, not exactly. I just couldn't hear any calls. People on the other line could hear me, but I couldn't hear them. So I ended up getting an LG Cosmos, mainly because it was one of the only phones with a QWERTY keyboard available online that does not require a monthly data package. It also has a touch screen, which I've never had before, and I'm still undecided as to whether or not I like it. One week later and I'm still accidently calling people as I scroll through my contact list and hanging up on calls while I'm trying to unlock the screen. It will take some getting used to. Thank goodness I don't have one of those Droids like the rest of the world seems to have!

If you thought that this week's RTT was pretty lame, then you're probably right. I didn't have too many interesting thoughts this week. And if you happened to miss my RTT post from last week (which you most likely did since I actually posted it on Wednesday), then check it out here. It may be better than this week's, but I can't make any promises.

And as a little PSA, it's springtime, which means the windows will start to roll down, music will be blasting, cars will drive a little faster, and the cops will be out patrolling the streets, waiting to catch the next "bad guy". Be safe!

After them! They're getting away!
Happy Tuesday, everyone!

  1. My hubby and I are avoiding the fancy data phones. WE want a simple phone we can call out on and send the occasional text on.

  2. That's all I use mine for too. Calls and text.

  3. I like John Lithgow but it's a hit and miss. I loved him in 3rd Rock but wasn't impressed in other works. He does silly best..

  4. I like John Lithgow to, but more John on Dexter than John on 3rd rock.

That picture of the kiddos in the cop car is fabulous!

  5. Hmmm. Well it looks as though I am in the minority on that one. How do you ladies feel about Nicolas Cage? Because I can't stand him either!

  6. I HATE "Nic" Cage with a passion. In my book, he's right up there with Keanu on my list of horrible actors. Oh, and I would be totally okay with those cops pulling me over!

  7. I saw that John Lithgow had been cast as Barney's dad, but still unsure if there's a like/dislike yet. I'm waiting to watch that HIMYM episode when hubby is available to watch with me - thank goodness for DVR! ;)

LOVE that kiddy police car picture - priceless! :)

  10. I don't know how I feel about John Lithgow. I've never explored my feelings about him. I loved Nicholas Cage in the older movies like Valley Girl and Wild at Heart. Newer movies, not so much.

  11. @Stacy: It's a tearjerker episode. Enjoy!

@Toni: I know! The phone that I wanted now requires a data package, so I couldn't get it. It's ridiculous.

@Vanessa: I believe that I came across your blog via TB too! And thanks. I'm still crossing my fingers on that one.

@MP: I don't think that I ever saw Valley Girl or Wild at Heart. He has always seemed overly cocky to me and reminded me a bit of my high school math teacher, which is not a good thing.

  12. I never cook cupcakes on 400. I'd burn them for sure.

But, we est gluten free here and baking is kind of weird.

But who am I kidding? I'd eat them anyway.

  13. @Julianna: 400 seems a little much to me. I doubt that I could do anything gluten free!

  14. I don't watch HIMYM... I've heard it's a great show, but I just never watch. Maybe one day I'll get all the episodes on DVD.

I do have a Droid (and happen to love it!) but yes, it did take some getting used to the touch screen.

  15. I have a similar LG phone (older model). I quite like it. Other than the one button redials the last number that called you if you squeeze the phone too hard...

  16. @Shannon: You should! Barney is the best part, at least I think so. I'm sure that if I gave the Droid a chance, and learned how to use it properly, then I would probably love it too.

@Keely: I'm still trying to figure out how NOT to answer a call when I'm trying to unlock the touch screen to ignore it instead!
